Lodestone wins Judge's Choice at inaugural CodeLaunch Canada competition

Toronto-based product management platform beats out 60+ companies with a narrative-driven pitch — and ships its first strategy module in the process

Toronto, ON — Lodestone, a B2B SaaS platform helping product teams transform scattered data into clear stakeholder narratives, has been awarded Judge's Choice at CodeLaunch Canada 2024 — the first-ever Canadian edition of the American incubator and pitch competition.

CodeLaunch Canada attracted more than 60 competing companies from across the country, whittled down through a multi-stage process that combined social media engagement, a 48-hour hackathon, and a live pitch competition before a panel of judges and a live audience in Toronto. Lodestone was selected among the final six companies to compete in the pitch finale, where the judges' panel awarded the company their top honour.

"Product management is fundamentally about getting people aligned — and you do that through stories, not slide decks," said Dennis Chow, founder and CEO of Lodestone. "We built our pitch the same way we build Lodestone: around the idea that a well-told narrative is more powerful than any data point. The judges responded to that, and honestly, it was the most direct proof we've had yet that this philosophy works."

Rather than a conventional pitch deck, Lodestone presented a visual narrative built around a single sweeping landscape — with the market opportunity depicted as a golden mountain on the horizon, the problem illustrated as travellers lost in a tangle of roads, and Lodestone itself cast as a golden compass guiding teams from where they are to where they need to be. Competitive threats appeared as obstacles along the journey, while the founding team served as trusted guides. Every element of the business was embedded into the story through symbolism, never breaking the narrative frame.

The competition also yielded a tangible product milestone. During the hackathon portion of CodeLaunch Canada, the Lodestone team used the 48-hour sprint to build and ship the first version of their Strategy Module — an animated growth cube that helps product leaders visualize trade-off decisions across investment channels over time, giving teams a shared narrative framework for strategic alignment.

The audience vote was ultimately awarded to Materia Bioworks, a sustainable materials company. As Judge's Choice winner, Lodestone has been invited to represent Canada at the CodeLaunch Champions Showcase in Dallas, Texas this November — a culminating international competition featuring the top winners from each of CodeLaunch's four 2024 regional events across North America.

"Winning isn't just about the trophy," added Chow. "What CodeLaunch gave us was a stage to demonstrate that the same storytelling discipline we preach to product managers actually works when your company's future is on the line. We're looking forward to taking that story to Dallas."
